Psychologist, PhD, ABPP
Dr. Rebecca Berger is Clinical Director of MindWell NYC and a licensed clinical psychologist. She is board-certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in behavioral and cognitive therapies, specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). She has particular expertise and interest in exposure therapy for anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Dr. Berger practices CBT and DBT and has training in Exposure and Response Prevention (EX/RP), Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She provides individual, couples, and group therapy to adolescents, young adults, and adults and leads MindWell NYC's ACT & Trauma groups.
Dr. Berger is a member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, the American Association of Suicidology, the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), and the NYC- Cognitive Behavior Therapy Association. Dr. Berger has completed training through Weill Cornell Center for Human Rights to conduct evaluations for asylum seekers. She is passionate about providing seminars and presentations about various mental health topics to the community and other mental health care providers.
Prior to joining MindWell NYC, Dr. Berger was a Staff Psychologist at two universities in Western NY where she provided individual and group therapy to college students, supervised doctoral and masters level psychology students, and helped to develop campus policy regarding medical leave of absences and suicide prevention. In addition, Dr. Berger was engaged in her own private practice in the Rochester, NY community. Dr. Berger completed externships at Hofstra University’s Student Counseling Services and the Northport VA Medical Center. She completed her APA-accredited internship at the University of Pittsburgh Counseling Center.
Dr. Berger earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University and her B.A. in Psychology and Communicative Disorders and Sciences from SUNY Geneseo.
