Mental Health Counselor, LMHC
About Me:
Hi, I’m Anya, a deep feeler with a naturally warm constitution. My work is grounded in both intuition and an academic background in life sciences, clinical research, and social justice. I combine technical expertise with a natural ability to sense the unspoken dynamics of sessions, which allows me to support clients in ways that feel authentic, meaningful, and indivudualized.
I specialize in working with individuals who have experienced complex trauma—whether from emotionally immature caregivers, narcissistic relationships, or the deep pain of unexpected loss. I understand how these experiences can leave people feeling frozen, anxious, depressed, and/or disconnected from themselves. The truth is, we can’t heal alone. We heal in relationships with others. I help people shift from merely surviving to truly thriving.
My Approach to Therapy:
I focus on the treatment of adults using a relational psychodynamic approach. I also draw on theoretical principles from Humanistic, Feminist, Multicultural, Jungian, and Buddhist Psychology, and techniques from ACT and DBT. Therapy with me prioritizes relationships (with oneself and important others), cultivating deep insight into how the past influences the present. I believe the therapeutic relationship must first establish a sense of trust and safety in order for clients to really get to know themselves, and I am committed to creating that safe space. From this container, we can move toward lasting, meaningful change.
I’m non-pathologizing, which means I don’t see people as broken or inherently flawed. Instead, I believe that the coping mechanisms clients have developed—whether it’s dissociation, hyper-independence, avoidance, suppression, or overcontrol—have served a purpose: they help us survive distress. My work involves gently surfacing and untangling these patterns, understanding their origins, and helping clients move toward more adaptive, fulfilling ways of being.
I also draw on principles from humanistic, feminist, multicultural, and Buddhist psychology, bringing a holistic and inclusive approach to therapy.
Who I Work With:
I specialize in working with adults who have experienced complex trauma, including psychological abuse, emotional neglect, attachment trauma, sexual assault, and grief and loss. I also support individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, burnout, identity development, and feelings of disconnection or isolation. Many of my clients come to me after experiencing significant harm or betrayal in relationships, and I honor the courage it takes to seek therapy after such experiences.
I am an LGBTQ+ affirming and anti-racist psychotherapist. I very much enjoy working with people of diverse backgrounds and experiences, and am committed to promoting equality and safety in my therapy office as well as in the world.
