Alexandra Shaker, PhD is a licensed clinical psychologist and a writer. Dr. Shaker's writing is an interdisciplinary exploration of the human condition: she integrates psychology, literature, history, anthropology, and language to speak to the meaning and vitality we find in the stories we tell one another and the stories we tell ourselves. She received her PhD in clinical psychology from The New School for Social Research and completed her clinical internship training at Columbia University Medical Center/New York Presbyterian Hospital. She has worked in a range of inpatient and outpatient treatment settings, including hospitals and clinics in New York City such as Beth Israel Medical Center, South Beach Psychiatric Center, The New School Counseling Center, and New York State Psychiatric Institute. Dr. Shaker completed a postdoctoral fellowship in perinatal mental health at The Motherhood Center of New York and held a position there as a clinical psychologist. She has experience in research, teaching, and clinical practice.

Dr. Shaker's non-fiction debut, on the relationship between anxiety and the body, will be published in the US by Viking and in the UK by Headline in 2024.
