Allison Abrams received her Master’s in Clinical Social Work from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, and completed her post-graduate training at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Education at NYU and the Contemporary Freudian Society of New York. In addition to her psychodynamic training, she is also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Techniques, Group Dynamics, Motivational Interviewing, Structural Family Systems, and Positive Psychology.
Allison began her career as a clinical social worker in community mental health clinics and addiction treatment centers throughout the South Bronx, where she provided individual, group, and family therapy. She was also the coordinator of a Women’s Health Initiative at a non- profit social service agency serving the entertainment community. She has co-created educational groups on improving wellbeing and happiness, has been a guest lecturer at Hunter School of Social Work and Smith College and has published in several academic journals. She is the author of the Psychology Today Blog, “Nurturing Self-Compassion,” and the co-author of A Contemporary Approach to Clinical Supervision: The Supervisee Perspective, published by Routledge. She is a frequent expert for media outlets such as NBC, USA Today, Business Insider, Washington Post, and BBC, and a contributing writer for HuffPost, GoodTherapy, Verywell Mind, and Lyra Health, covering topics including relationships, emotional wellness and mental health in the workplace. She is an associate member of the American Psychological Association (APA), a member of the China America Psychoanalytic Association (CAPA), Creatives Care, the National Association of Social Work (NASW), and the Center for Executive Coaching (CEC.)
