Hi! I’m Alyssa Kushner, LCSW, a psychotherapist, educator, group leader, and founder of AK Psychotherapy and AK Alignment & Growth.
Through my private practice, AK Psychotherapy, I work primarily with high-functioning women who are deeply caring, capable, self-aware - and often exhausted from carrying too much. I specialize in relational and attachment trauma, anxiety, hypervigilance, codependency, people-pleasing, self-abandonment, perfectionism, and the patterns that can leave women feeling responsible for everyone else’s emotions, needs, comfort, and reactions. I offer individual therapy, support groups, and EMDR/IFS intensives.
A lot of my work centers around helping women understand why they became the one who scans the room, keeps the peace, over-explains, anticipates everyone’s needs, struggles to say no, or feels guilty the second someone is disappointed in them. I help clients move from constantly monitoring and managing the people around them toward stronger boundaries, greater self-trust, more reciprocal relationships, and a life that leaves room for their own needs too.
My approach is relational, trauma-informed, and integrative. I draw from EMDR, attachment theory, IFS and parts work, nervous-system regulation, somatic approaches, mindfulness, and self-compassion. I’m especially interested in the space between insight and change - because many of the women I work with already understand their patterns incredibly well. The work becomes learning how to respond differently when those patterns show up in real time, especially when guilt, anxiety, or someone else’s discomfort makes the old response feel safer.
Through my second business, AK Alignment & Growth, I bring this work outside the therapy room through educational resources, workshops, group programs for women, and self-paced programs focused on hyper-responsibility, over-giving, boundaries, self-trust, nervous-system patterns, and learning how to care deeply for other people without abandoning yourself in the process.
I also work with therapists through business and marketing consultation, helping them clarify who they want to work with, find language that actually sounds like them, and translate their clinical work into messaging that makes potential clients feel seen. I run a biweekly consultation group for overthinking and over-giving therapists in private practice, with space for both the clinical and business sides of the work - from difficult cases and boundaries to self-doubt, perfectionism, visibility, and building a practice without burning yourself out. To help bridge that gap of making nuanced decisions.
Across both businesses, the thread is pretty consistent: I’m interested in what happens when thoughtful, highly attuned women have spent so much time orienting toward everyone else that they’ve lost some access to themselves - and how we help them come back.
Thank you - feel free to reach out and connect!
