I am a licensed clinical psychologist and have been in the private practice of psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, and supervision for 25 years. I have a Ph.D. from Northwestern University, where my disseration advisor was eminent psychotherapy researcher Kenneth Howard, Ph.D. I have an extensive clinical background in group work, substance misuse, and eating disorders, but over the years have transitioned to a focus on working with writers, artists, actors, dancers, playwrights, and other creative types. Another concentration in my clinical work involves psychodynamic and practical approaches to ADHD and broad autism phenotype. My clinical approach integrates a variety of psychoanalytic perspectives with DBT and other skills-based modalities.
In addition to my private practice, I am an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry at CUMC, and have been a long-term Faculty and Executive Committee member at the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. At the Center, I have held a number of leadership and curriculum development roles, including Chair of the Psychology Division, Director of Externship Training, and most recently, Curriculum Co-chair and Co-chair of the post-Freud theory courses. I am also on the editorial boards of JAPA and The Psychoanalytic Quarterly.
