Dr. Boutwell works with individuals (children, adolescents, and adults), couples, and families, with particular attention focus on periods of developmental transition and vulnerability. She is especially interested in helping individuals, couples, and families navigate the peripartum period, infancy and early childhood. Her therapeutic approach is grounded in psychoanalytic thinking and guided by a respect for inner life—the thoughts, feelings, and unconscious processes that shape how we experience ourselves and others.
Dr. Boutwell is involved in teaching and supervision. She serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medical Psychology in Psychiatry at Columbia University’s Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research, voluntary faculty member at Weill Cornell’s Women’s Program, and is a Supervising Psychologist at The Motherhood Center of New York.
