Dr. Angela Horng is a 2nd generation Taiwanese American who grew up in the South Bay Area with an older brother and immigrant parents. She experienced an intense ‘Bay Area’ upbringing, giving her a unique understanding of the mental health impacts of high-pressure and high-achieving communities. She has a depth of lived experience to draw from, including being a competitive youth athlete, navigating cultural and familial pressures to be a high-achiever, surviving her own experiences with depression and anxiety, and navigating grief and starting over after divorce. Through it all, Angela has learned to develop a robust sense of self in the face of ‘failure’, which has been unspeakably rewarding, and drives her desire to help clients develop a secure and stable sense of self as well.

In regards to therapy, Dr. Horng is active, collaborative, and tailors her approach to your unique needs. She is an integrative psychologist, with a grounding primarily based in attachment theory and motivational interview, then she will draw upon interventions such as CBT, DBT, ACT, CFT, Somatic Experiencing, IFS, etc based on client presentation and fit. For couples and family work, she draws from attachment-based work, internal family systems (IFS), and emotion-focused therapy (EFT). She works best with clients who are curious, engaged, and ready to dive deeper into self-exploration. Dr. Horng is not a passive listener— she will reflect, challenge, and support you as you gain insight, shift patterns, and build a more empowered and loving relationship with yourself.

As a human, she describes herself as a free spirit who loves animals (she has two 14-year-old tortoiseshell cats named Ariadne and Persephone, and a 12-year-old Golden Retriever named Orpheo), nature, cooking (Asian food ftw), and travel. She has been to countless countries, and has lived in Norcal, Socal, Tucson, AZ, New Orleans, LA, and most recently, Brooklyn, New York. In addition to providing therapy, Dr. Horng is also the New York state lead for an advocacy group called Build Better Health, and operates a group practice, Untangled Threads Psychology, where she provides training and supervision for associates and interns. She is passionate about competent care for BIPOC and other marginalized populations (i.e. neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+).

Whether it is in individual therapy, supervision, or a coaching capacity, Dr. Horng is very happy to meet you where you are to help you find your most authentic self. She will help you develop the tools to live a powerful and fulfilling life, despite how overwhelming the world can be today. Dr. Horng is here to believe in you until you learn how to believe in yourself!
