Barbara Bartlik

            Rated one of New York Magazine's Best Doctors in Psychiatry, Dr. Barbara Bartlik is a recognized expert clinician, teacher, and author in integrative medicine, psychiatry, and sexual health. She has been in private practice in Manhattan, New York City, New York, for more than 30 years. Dr. Bartlik treats men, women and couples with emotional and relationship problems, diverse sexual dysfunctions, hormonally-related concerns, weight management issues, those seeking to strengthen general health and wellness, and those with psychiatric ills. She treats depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, autism spectrum disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, dementia, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, headache, insomnia, premenstrual and menopausal concerns, postpartum issues, erectile disorder, painful sex, low sexual desire, orgasm difficulties, and helps individuals achieve more satisfying sexual expression especially in later life.

            In all her clinical work, Dr. Bartlik applies an evidence-based, holistic, integrative medical approach to treatment, emphasizing lifestyle and nutritional strategies, and seeking to responsibly minimize the use of pharmaceuticals while optimizing health and well-being. She uses sophisticated laboratory tests (hormones, nutrients, genetics, toxins) to reveal underlying sources of micronutrient depletion and inflammation that contribute to medical and emotional problems, and addresses these through conventional treatments as well as dietary change, nutritional supplementation, and the elimination of toxins and other detrimental environmental factors.

            Dr. Bartlik received her undergraduate degree from the University of Hartford in 1977, and her M.D. degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1981, where she studied neurology with the late Dr. Oliver Sacks. She completed her psychiatry residency and research fellowship at New York University Medical Center / Bellevue Hospital (now NYU Langone Health), and went on to become an associate in the practice of the late pioneering sex therapist, Helen Singer Kaplan, M.D. She also treated severely mentally ill patients at Manhattan Psychiatric Center, NYS Office of Mental Health.  Dr. Bartlik is certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and holds additional certifications in integrative medicine from the American Board of Physician Specialties and in sexology from the American Board of Sexology. In 2019 she was named a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and was rated as one of New York Magazine’s Best Doctors in psychiatry.

            Dr. Bartlik has published numerous scientific articles and textbook chapters, and is a co-editor and an author of Integrative Sexual Health (2018), a volume in the [Dr. Andrew] Weil Integrative Medicine Library, published by Oxford University Press. Dr. Bartlik currently practices in her private offices in Manhattan, Westchester, and Long Island. She is a member of the voluntary faculty of Weill Cornell Medical College and the voluntary staff at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
