Dr. Castro is a born and raised New Yorker, a clinical child psychologist, and a nonprofit founder. She is passionate about increasing access to high-quality, evidence-based care for children, teens, and families.

She earned her BA in Psychology and Anthropology from Wesleyan University and PhD in Clinical Child Psychology from DePaul University. Her predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship were both completed at Columbia University Medical Center/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

In her work, she integrates techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), interpersonal psychotherapy for adolescents (IPT-A), parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT), and parent management training (PMT). Through a collaborative and transparent approach to therapy, she helps youth 1) understand why they’re struggling, 2) regulate emotions and behaviors, 3) improve self-esteem and confidence, and 4) communicate better with others. She also enjoys helping parents decrease their stress, build parenting confidence, and find new ways of connecting with and supporting their child.

Dr. Castro is also the co-founder and executive director of Healwise (formerly Therapy4thePeople), a nonprofit committed to increasing access to mental healthcare for people of color and low-income communities. She is proud to lead a diverse team of mental health advocates who are dedicating their time and talents toward increasing access to care for communities that have been historically underserved by the mental health system.

She is an active member of the American Psychological Association, the Society for Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, and PCIT International. She is also the Representative to Council for the CBT Division of the New York State Psychological Association.
