Dr. Charissa Chamorro is a clinical psychologist and Assistant Clinical Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She is an expert in assessing and treating anxiety, OCD, and depression in children and adults. She specializes in children’s and women’s mental health, and she often works with parents to support them through the joys and challenges of parenthood. Dr. Chamorro integrates her warm and compassionate approach with scientifically supported interventions to help people develop effective coping strategies and achieve greater emotional well-being.
Dr. Chamorro has over a decade of experience working with children, teens, and adults on a range of behavioral and emotional issues. Her approach is relational and grounded in evidence-based therapies including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). In addition to her expertise in mental health, Dr. Chamorro is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and she is passionate about helping babies, toddlers, and adults get the sleep they need.
Dr. Chamorro has presented her research at conferences nationwide and has been awarded fellowships in research and statistics. She has contributed to research on pediatric OCD and anxiety disorders, and has conducted research on the identification of factors that contribute to anxiety and mood disorders.
Dr. Chamorro is on the Expert Medical Review Board for Parents Magazine and she is a frequent media contributor. Her expertise has been featured in Time, Forbes, Parents, People, Huffington Post, Real Simple, Insider, Healthline, and Newsweek. She was also a featured contributor on NBC's Doc to Doc.
Education and Training
Dr. Chamorro received her PhD in clinical psychology from Long Island University and completed her doctoral internship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. She also holds a Master of Arts in psychology from Long Island University, a Master of Social Work from New York University, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Boston University. Dr. Chamorro completed clinical training at Columbia University Medical Center, Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York State Psychiatric Institute, and New York University. She has specialized training in postpartum mental health issues through Postpartum Support International.
