Dr. Katrina Furey is a board-certified adult psychiatrist specializing in women’s mental health and reproductive psychiatry. She is also a clinical instructor in the Yale University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. She spends most of her time treating patients in her private practice, Sound Psychiatry LLC in Guilford, Connecticut, where she is one of the only psychiatrists in the state offering psychotherapy, medication management, and expert consultation for women with depression, anxiety, PMDD, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (including OCD), birth trauma, and menopausal mood and anxiety disorders. She has been featured as a perinatal expert on the local news and in esteemed publications like in Newsweek, Yahoo News, and CNN, among others. Since 2022, Dr. Furey has consulted for Connecticut’s Access Mental Health for Moms hotline offering psychiatric expertise and consultation to medical providers treating women for mental health and/or substance use conditions during pregnancy and up to one year after delivery.
Over the past few years, she has explored creative ways to spread accurate mental health information to a wider audience. You can follow her on Instagram, TikTok & Facebook @drkatrinafurey for lots of educational and entertaining content related to mental health, motherhood, and being a physician entrepreneur. She co-hosts a podcast “Analyze Scripts” that analyzes the depiction of mental health in fictional television shows and film. In October 2024, Dr. Furey launched Repro Psych Academy, a comprehensive series of online courses designed to empower ALL healthcare providers to feel more confident in diagnosing and managing women’s mental health conditions related to hormonal shifts from menses to menopause. Soon, Repro Psych Academy will also include entertaining and educational content for all female identifying persons, regardless of profession or educational status, who want to better understand their bodies and the mental health issues that can arise from hormonal transitions.
