I work with adults to relieve suffering, to develop resilience, and to enhance their ability to experience high-level well-being. Specialty areas include anxiety; stress; obsessive-compulsive challenges; creativity blocks; life transitions; self-management for chronic diseases; and adjunctive-to-medical approaches to cancer, during and after treatment. I use an integrative approach tailored to the needs, abilities, and interests of each patient.
I work with couples on relationship issues and business partners/colleagues wanting mediation, and I train primary care physicians on how to help their patients self-manage chronic conditions.
In short- or long-term counseling, I train people to be able to work on their own, especially by learning stress management techniques: modalities include mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). With the Enneagram personality typology, people learn to understand and work with traits and motivations specific to their personality type, making changes that maximize their strengths. At times I run time-limited groups focused on one or more of the above modalities. For long-term work, the context is a psychodynamic framework. I may make home visits if a patient is disabled and nearby.
