Psychologist, Ph.D.
Elena Mayville, Ph.D., specializes in couple therapy and individual therapy focused on improving relationships and reducing anxiety. She is certified in Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy, an empirically-supported treatment that incorporates empathy and acceptance with change strategies for couples.
Dr. Mayville completed her B.A. in psychology at Stanford University and her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Yale University. While at Yale, she trained in couple and individual therapy and was a protocol clinician on a randomized control trial for Emotion Regulation Therapy for Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Her dissertation focused on the relationship between attachment style and expression of emotions in relationships of varying intimacy.
Dr. Mayville completed her predoctoral internship and her postdoctoral fellowship at the Cognitive Therapy Clinic at Weill Cornell Medicine, where she treated couples and individuals with anxiety and depression using cognitive behavioral therapy. Dr. Mayville is now Clinical Assistant Professor at Weill Cornell Medicine, where she continues to teach predoctoral interns about topics related to cognitive behavioral therapy and identity.
Dr. Mayville is passionate about helping people improve their relationship health and satisfaction. She collaborates with patients to help them uncover how their relationship works and to increase their sense of connection to each other. She has worked with patients from a wide variety of backgrounds and is interested in how aspects of identity shape people's beliefs about and needs in relationships.
In addition to providing couple therapy and individual therapy related to relationship issues, Dr. Mayville offers premarital therapy as well as trainings for couples who are preparing to become parents as a certified Gottman Institute "Bringing Baby Home" educator.
Dr. Mayville is licensed in New York and Idaho and works with patients over telehealth.
