I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Therapist in New Jersey, New York, and Florida offering virtual sessions through my private practice, Emily Austin Therapy. I specialize in working with millennial women struggling with anxiety, OCD, and grief.
My clients are often high-functioning and outwardly “put together,” yet internally experiencing people-pleasing tendencies, difficulty setting boundaries, ruminative thinking, and self-doubt. I have a specific interest in working with OCD that centers around intrusive thoughts and primarily mental compulsions. I focus on lesser-known themes of OCD — including obsessions related to relationships, sexual orientation, health, and identity — that are often accompanied by rumination and internal checking. My goal is to help individuals feel more secure and empowered, and to develop the ability to sit with uncertainty without feeling driven to act on their fears.
My approach is warm and gentle, incorporating humor when appropriate. I use a variety of evidence-based modalities, including CBT, ERP, and mindfulness. Much of my clinical background includes forensic work with victims of trauma, so I approach therapy from a trauma-informed and strengths-based perspective. I graduated from Quinnipiac University with a BS in Sociology and Law and received my Master’s in Social Work from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College.
