Dr. Jillian Kaufman is a clinical social worker, the founder of Wavelength Psychotherapy in NYC and NJ, and an adjunct professor at New York University. She has a decade of experience working with adults and adolescents through a holistic, humanistic, and somatic lens. Her areas of focus include anxiety, helping professionals, PTSD, self-image, stress, trauma, and healing survivors of sexual violence. She approaches her work with a socially just, intersectional, and trauma-informed perspective.
Jillian initially set out to work in forensic psychology when she was young. Since then, she became a clinical social worker and discovered a happy medium between this and her forensic interest through the direct and indirect aspects of her professional experiences. Over the last decade, Jillian has been active in the fight against sexual violence, with a focus on domestic minor sex trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of children. She has engaged in coalition building, prevention education, community awareness, and policy/advocacy. She had the pleasure of partnering with many schools, universities, and professional agencies to provide education and trauma-informed practices when working with survivors of sexual violence. Her clients keep her connected to the voices that need to be heard the most, their narratives invigorating her to continue to advocate for equal and equitable human rights for all.
As a relatable clinical social worker, advocate, and human being, Jillian believes clients heal most effectively when treated as a whole person and not as their diagnosis. She recognizes that every individual is unique and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to healing. Characterized by humor, sass, curiosity, and vivacity, her therapeutic style is directive but patient, honest, and kind. Jillian's practice suits those looking to be supported as they deepen their understanding of themselves, each other, and their world. Jillian collaborates with her clients to build a safe, authentic, and restorative environment. She believes in flexible scheduling, alternating modalities based on your needs, and honest feedback.
Jillian and her practice support clients in person in Union Square/West Village and Bergen County and online via video for individuals in New York and New Jersey.
