Joanna is a licensed psychotherapist in private practice in NYC and NJ, specializing in working with Asian and Asian American adults and couples. Additionally, she is an affiliated psychotherapist and clinical supervisor at Yellow Chair Collective, a group practice dedicated to serving Asian and multicultural clients and communities.
She utilizes a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach integrating evidence-based interventions such as ACT, CBT, DBT, MI, existential, humanistic, and person-in-environment perspectives. She values the importance of staying current on the latest research in neuroscience and psychology to better support clients and their goals.
Her background and experience have shown her that you cannot understand an individual without understanding the context that they live in. Together, she and her clients explore how the self, family, community, and society, all shaped and affected who clients are today. Her experience has given her the opportunity to hear people’s inner lives, and she considers it a great privilege to listen to their journeys. Her approach is non-judgmental and compassionate, for clients to feel safe and heard.
She graduated from the Silver School of Social Work at NYU and has experience working in a variety of settings, including community mental health, crisis intervention, and inpatient psychiatric hospital units.
