Dr. Jeanne Nugent is a clinical psychotherapist based in New York who works with young and mature adults with a variety of mental health concerns. Areas of expertise include anxiety, mood disturbances, identity issues, relational and career changes, creative blocks, and recovery from alcohol and addictive substances. Jeanne works well with graduate students, parents, artists, entrepreneurs, creative professionals, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Services include individual, couple, and group psychotherapy. I currently work online only. I am licensed in NY, MA, PA, and FL.
Dr. Nugent uses an integrative psychodynamic approach drawn from her training in interpersonal psychoanalytic psychotherapy (William Alanson White Institute), modern psychoanalysis (Center for Group Studies), and dialectical behavioral therapy (Behavioral Tech/Linehan Institute). She is also a certified mindfulness meditation teacher, having completed the two-year program led by Tara Brach & Jack Kornfield. Before opening an independent private practice, she worked in several professional settings that inform her current practice. These include providing addiction family treatment at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation (Chelsea), Inter-Care (Flatiron), and Odyssey House (UWS), as well as acute psychiatric care at the Columbia Day Treatment Program of Columbia University Medical Center (Midtown), and the Payne Whitney Clinic of New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Hospital (UES). In private practice, the therapeutic work has become more collaborative and flexible, tailored to the unique needs and goals of those seeking help.
In addition to working with a diverse and inclusive clientele of young and mature, gay and straight adults individually and in couples, Jeanne runs groups geared toward current systemic issues affecting mental health. These include: Good Grief! An online political grief group for those experiencing disconnection due to polarizing politics, and Queer Kin Group Therapy for fostering interpersonal communication and strengthening bonds across the spectrum of identifications within queer communities.
If you think these approaches might help you regain momentum, improve understanding of yourself and others, and align creative potential with personal interests and goals, please reach out for an initial consultation.
