Location

For 15 years, Dr. Josh Altman has worked in the mental health and wellness field as a therapist, lecturer, and supervisor. He specializes in working with young professionals, entrepreneurs and teens. Many of his clients seek his guidance so they can improve their relationships, enhance their creativity, improve energy levels, reduce stress, and navigate professional decisions and life choices.

Dr. Altman also works with startup professionals to help them overcome the specific challenges they often face so they can re-establish peak performance.

Dr. Altman has advanced training in psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, and coaching. He also consults for corporations looking to create a culture of wellbeing for their employees.

Prior to private practice, Dr. Altman worked in hospitals, universities and community mental health clinics with a broad and diverse client population. For almost 6 years he served as the associate director of the Adelphi University Student Counseling Center, New York, where he provided clinical care, lectured and supervised a staff of 25+ clinicians and interns — which serves 8,000 people on 3 campuses. Dr. Altman is a national lecturer and his work has been regularly featured in Newsweek, Fast Company, the Chronicle of Higher Education, Modern Healthcare, and other publications.

Dr. Altman trained and received his Master's degree at New York University Silver School of Social Work. He completed internships at Phoenix House’s IMPACT Outpatient Program in New York City where he counseled teens and their families as they sought to acquire the valuable skills necessary to sustain healthy recovery from alcohol and substance misuse. Dr. Altman's advanced internship was at the Saint Vincent Hospital Outpatient Clinic, New York, NY.

Dr. Altman received his doctorate at the Smith College School for Social Work in Northampton, Massachusetts where he also served as a lecturer and adjunct instructor. Dr. Altman provides teletherapy to clients in New York and New Jersey. He lives in the New York City area with his wife, children and Bernadoodle, Molly.
