Julie Amoretti

Julie Amoretti, PhD is a licensed clinical psychologist (CA PSY36634, NY 022884) in private practice in Santa Barbara, California. She also sees patients virtually who are based in NYC. She is trained in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and sees patients struggling with a range of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, and psychosomatic illness. She has worked in college/graduate student and physician mental health, and has experience supporting conservatory students through performance anxiety and creative blocks, graduate students through dissertation writing, and physicians through burnout, moral distress, and work-related trauma and grief.

Dr. Amoretti holds graduate degrees in philosophy and psychology. She attended the Anna Freud Centre in London as a Fulbright scholar, and completed her PhD in Clinical Psychology at CUNY Graduate Center with a dissertation on psychoanalytic dream theory. She worked at several college counseling centers across NYC as part of her training, including CUNY Graduate Center, Manhattan School of Music, Pace, and NYU. After her training, she spent several years working in physician mental health at NYU Langone Medical Center, and on the faculty at NYU School of Medicine, before transitioning to full time private practice. Through her practice, she has worked as a consulting psychologist for Manhattan School of Music, and has supervised doctoral students in both training clinic and counseling center settings.
