Dr. Karen Weiser is an LGBTQIA+ affirming and inclusive New York State Licensed Psychoanalyst in private practice in Manhattan’s Tribeca / City Hall area. She welcomes both individual adults (ages 18+) and couples with issues across the mental health spectrum for both in-person and remote sessions. The people she works with come in seeking help with overwhelming feelings, such as anxiety and depression, or physical symptoms that cause them to feel dysregulated. Sometimes they struggle with problems at their jobs, with their families, or in romantic relationships. Some have experienced both large traumatic events and big losses that they need to process, and some can't understand why they feel so sad or empty all the time when on paper their lives appear fine. She focuses on both discovering underlying patterns and helping her patients learn how to better regulate so they can feel less overwhelmed.

Karen helps her patients discover and recognize their unconscious and attachment dynamics and how this underlies all relationships, including the ones we have with ourselves. It is also important to acknowledge the very real precarity of our environment and the way the toxic aspects of our culture affect mental health. Her approach is collaborative and often incorporates mindfulness and a focus on the body, as well as other therapeutic modes. She is interactive and responsive, asks questions, and encourages feedback.

Karen completed advanced training in psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Institute for Contemporary Therapy in New York City where she occasionally teaches. Before becoming an analyst she earned a Ph.D. in English, an MFA in poetry, and taught literature at the college level. As a poet, she understands the creative process and often works with people engaged in creative practices. Currently, she has openings for both in-person and remote therapy.
