Dr. Laura Beth Kaplan, M.D., is a double board-certified psychiatrist who specializes in distress related to parenting, pregnancy, and early adulthood. She maintains a private practice on the Upper West Side with a focus on warm, personalized, and respectful care.
Within her practice, Dr. Kaplan emphasizes psychotherapy alongside the thoughtful use of psychiatric medications when appropriate. She treats a wide range of difficulties, including depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship struggles, role changes, and loneliness. Moreover, she has particular expertise in postpartum depression and anxiety, in prescribing psychiatric medications during pregnancy and breastfeeding, in grief related to infertility and pregnancy loss, in adjusting to parenthood, and in other mental health challenges related to women's reproductive lifecycle.
Dr. Kaplan has lectured nationally on perinatal psychiatry and therapy. Outside of her private practice, she is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College, where she supervises advanced psychiatry trainees in reproductive psychiatry and child psychiatry. She is the former clinical lead for integrated mental health services in NYC Health + Hospitals’ 3–2–1 IMPACT model of care, and she has also served as a faculty member in NYU’s Women’s Mental Health Fellowship and in NYU’s Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship.
