Dr. Lauren Mahoney is a postdoctoral psychologist at Authentically Living Psychological Services, PLLC. She works with adolescents, adults, women, caregivers, and couples navigating anxiety, grief, trauma, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. Her approach is warm, collaborative, and insight-oriented, helping clients better understand themselves while developing practical tools to navigate life's challenges with greater confidence and self-trust.
Dr. Mahoney has extensive experience treating anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, grief and loss, relationship concerns, low self-esteem, perfectionism, people-pleasing, emotional overwhelm, burnout, and stress related to work, caregiving, and major life transitions. She works with individuals who feel stuck in patterns of overthinking, self-criticism, uncertainty, or difficulty trusting themselves, as well as those struggling with boundaries, emotional regulation, identity development, and navigating change. She has particular clinical interests in women's mental health, including perinatal mental health, PMDD, reproductive loss, infertility, pregnancy and postpartum adjustment, caregiver stress, and the emotional impact of chronic illness. She also works with adolescents and young adults navigating identity development, anxiety, executive functioning challenges, school-related stress, social relationships, and the transition into adulthood. In addition, Dr. Mahoney has experience supporting neurodivergent individuals, including those with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (AuDHD), as well as individuals navigating substance use, recovery, and co-occurring mental health concerns.
Dr. Mahoney takes an integrative approach to psychotherapy, drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based interventions, relational therapy, existential therapy, and humanistic psychology. Rather than focusing solely on symptom reduction, she helps clients understand the patterns, beliefs, and experiences that have shaped how they relate to themselves and others. Together, therapy focuses on building greater emotional flexibility, resilience, self-awareness, and the confidence to live in a way that feels authentic and aligned with one's values.
Dr. Mahoney has over 15 years of experience working across school, clinical, community, and private practice settings. In addition to providing psychotherapy at Authentically Living Psychological Services, she serves as a school psychologist, where she supports adolescents and families with social-emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs. She is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychology at the City University of New York, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, learning and memory, biological bases of behavior, psychopathology, research methods, death and dying, and coping with chronic illness. Her work as both a clinician and educator allows her to integrate current psychological research into practical, evidence-based care that is individualized to each client's unique experiences and goals. Dr. Mahoney is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), Certified Grief-Informed Professional (CGP), Certified Mental Health & Nutrition Clinical Specialist (CMNCS), and ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP). She is also a Diplomate in School Neuropsychology.
