Lindsay Nickens is a licensed psychotherapist in private practice and the Co-Founder and Clinical Director of Modern Talk, a boutique psychotherapy practice in Manhattan and South Florida. She works with high-functioning individuals, couples, and families who are navigating complex emotional, relational, and professional demands and are seeking depth-oriented, effective psychotherapy.
Lindsay specializes in working with:
Her clinical approach is grounded in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapy, with advanced training in Relational Life Therapy (Terry Real). This integrated framework allows Lindsay to work both reflectively and directly—helping clients understand longstanding emotional and relational patterns while also addressing high-conflict, emotionally charged interactions in real time. This approach is particularly effective when avoidance, escalation, or entrenched dynamics have made progress difficult.
In addition to her private practice, Lindsay developed and leads the clinical supervisory program at Modern Talk, where she trains therapists in psychodynamic psychotherapy to effectively work with individuals, couples, and families. She has previously taught and supervised clinicians at The Training Institute for Mental Health and served as an Adjunct Professor at Fordham University’s Graduate School of Social Service, reflecting her longstanding commitment to clinical education and professional development.
Lindsay is currently attending the William Alanson White Institute in a specialized program designed to deepen her work with families and adolescents, further expanding her expertise in family systems, developmental transitions, and intergenerational dynamics.
She earned her Master’s in Social Work from New York University, completed advanced post-graduate psychoanalytic training, and holds a two-year intensive certification in couples therapy from the Relational Life Institute. Earlier in her academic career, she completed a dual major in International Business and Marketing with a minor in Psychology, a foundation that informs her ability to work effectively with individuals and couples operating in complex, high-pressure environments.
Lindsay works with individuals, couples, and families who value depth, privacy, and thoughtful engagement in psychotherapy. Many of her patients are accustomed to functioning at a high level and seek a therapist who can address complex emotional and relational challenges with nuance and care. She is known for her engaged, grounded style and for helping clients move beyond short-term solutions toward meaningful, lasting change—supporting lives and relationships that feel emotionally connected, resilient, and sustainable.
