I have 30 years of experience as a psychodynamic psychotherapist and provide a warm and safe environment for patients who want to change how they think and feel about their lives and their relationships. I work with young adults, adults, and couples. I am trained in Relational/Interpersonal Psychoanalysis, Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), a short-term treatment for depression which focuses on relationships, and attachment-based EMDR for the treatment of Trauma. I believe in the ability of individuals to make changes in their lives and to transform themselves through insight, through relationships, and through their own innate abilities and talents. I am gentle and compassionate, but also able to help people look at difficult issues in their lives and to acknowledge and recognize their strengths and weaknesses.
One of my specialty areas includes perinatal mood disorders, transitioning to parenthood, trauma and how those three areas intersect. I work with mothers who have had trauma histories to help them understand how to position their history within their new parenting identity. I work to help them improve their self-esteem as parents and to trust their ability to be good, loving and effective parents.
I am currently the Director of The Trauma Studies Program of The Manhattan Institute for Psychoanalysis (MIP) where I supervise and teach. I also teach Gender and Sexuality in Psychoanalysis in MIP's 5-year program.
