Hello and welcome. I'm Mona Browne, a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC), national certified counselor (NCC) and certified dietitian nutritionist (CDN). I offer online psychotherapy for adults struggling with anxiety, depression, emotional distress, relationship issues, separation/divorce/infidelity, parenting concerns and difficult life transitions. “Talk therapy” can reduce emotional distress, alleviate suffering, lessen anxiety and decrease depression. Therapy encourages personal growth and opens up new life possibilities. I am a compassionate therapist who provides a nurturing, safe online space to bring symptom relief and healing.

My Approach. I believe the past lives on in the present. Our earliest life experiences and important relationships provide a model for how the world works. Many times, we continue to apply old patterns to new situations, even when they no longer work or cause great pain. It’s natural to keep doing what we know. Working online together offers the chance to explore, understand and change your life.

Background and Experience. I received a Master of Arts degree in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness from New York University in 2012. I currently work as an online psychotherapist after making the switch from a traditional private practice. I worked and trained as a clinician at the Metropolitan Center for Mental Health and the Karen Horney Clinic, two well-known mental health organizations in Manhattan. I have completed specialized clinical training in the treatment of postpartum depression and anxiety with the Postpartum Stress Center, Postpartum Support International and the Seleni Institute. I have also completed coursework at the Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (MITPP) and the American Institute of Psychoanalysis (AIP).

Earlier in my professional career, I worked as a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist in a community hospital, for a nutrition education organization and in my own consulting business. My passion was translating nutrition science into practical advice for healthy food choices as part of a wellness lifestyle. I wrote for women’s magazines and the popular press, and advised food companies and trade groups.

Online Therapy Tips. How can you get the most out of online therapy? When it’s time for your session, situate yourself in a private space with a computer, tablet or smartphone. Choose a talking space that is comfortable, secure and reasonably soundproof with a lockable door to protect your confidentiality. We will be able to see and hear each other during our live online video session.

*Online therapy is only available to New York state residents to comply with regulatory, licensure and practice requirements.
