I am a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, practicing on the UES in Manhattan, offering individual assessments, second opinions, as well as ongoing treatment. The focus of my practice are children, adolescents, and young adults, often (but not exclusively) girls and young women.

Every consultation starts with a thorough evaluation to define the nature of the issues, prior to making recommendations for treatment.

I evaluate and treat a wide range of conditions, examples are anxiety disorders, mood disorders (depression and bipolar disorder), adjustment reactions, attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder, developmental disorders, and post-traumatic conditions.

I recently published a co-authored book on anxiety disorders in youth: "Child and Adolescent Anxiety Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, A Treatment Manual" (https://global.oup.com/academic/product/child-and-adolescent-anxiety-psychodynamic-psychotherapy-9780190877712?q=Preter&lang=en&cc=us).

Treatment modailities I offer are psychodynamic psychotherapy, play therapy and parent guidance for young children, psychoanalysis, medication treatment when indicated (but typically not as a stand alone treatment).

I was trained in the European medical tradition in France and Germany and a particular interest of mine is working with international families. I provide services in English, French, and German.

I obtained a European Masters and PhD Degree in Psycholinguistics and Special Education, before obtaining my psychiatric eduaction in New York City at the Albert Einstain College of Medicine, followed by a Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at New York Presbyterian Hopsital (Payne Whitney Clinic) and Psychoanalytic Education at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute.

I am Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College.
Besides the clinical work in my private practice, I serve as Director of Child Clinical Services at the Treatment Center of the New York Psychoanalytic Institute, where I also supervise psychotherapy students.

I have been nominated Castle Connolly "Top Doctor" in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry since 2015 for five consecutive years.

Most recently I received the Castle Connolly 2019 Exceptional Women in Medicine Award, featured in the September 30, 2019 edition of New York Magazine (NYMAG).
