Sue Sugarman, MSW, LCSW-R, BCD, is a licensed clinical social worker with a rich background of over 25 years dedicated to working with children, adolescents, and families. Sue adopts an overarching, holistic approach in her work with children and parents. Viewing each child and family as a unique system, she tailors treatment to meet their specific needs. Employing an integrative approach that blends psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral techniques, Sue helps children gain a deeper understanding of their emotional states, improve interpersonal relationships, and enhance performance in academics and extracurricular activities. Additionally, when necessary, she collaborates with parents, providing them with tools and skills to support their children's growth and resilience.

In addition to her clinical practice, Sue played a pivotal role in co-authoring the inaugural master's-level course in social work focused on the mental health of athletes. Since the spring of 2022, she has been imparting her expertise through the course "An Introduction to Mental Health in Athletes and Clinical Social Work" at NYU Silver School of Social Work. When collaborating with athletes, Sue places a strong emphasis on cultivating a high-performance mindset, recognizing its potential to be the defining factor between success and failure. This mental skill set encompasses goal setting, diligence in training, sustained motivation, and maintaining a positive outlook in the face of challenges or unmet expectations—all crucial components for fostering resilience.
