Clinical Social Work/Therapist
Welcome.
My name is Tara. I am a biracial, cis-hetero woman (she/her), born in England to a South Asian, Indian father and 3rd generation white-Italian American mother. I moved to NYC in 2009.
As a trauma therapist who works with individuals, couples and (co)parents, some of the modalities that I have received training in and that I pull from in sessions include: Internally Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, EMDR, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. I am currently training in both Peri Mental Health & as a parent coach in Dr. Becky’s Good Inside program.
Outside of private practice, I am a clinical supervisor at Ackerman, ICP (in the Trauma Program) and Safe Horizon Counseling Center. I am also Co-Chair of the Child and Adolescent Trauma Program at National Institute for Psychotherapies and adjunct faculty at NYU.
I strive to be the therapist, educator, and consultant that I would want for myself and my loved ones, and have both personal and professional experience in the nuances and sensitivities occurring in multiracial, multicultural and interfaith families. I am committed to organizing around undoing racism in our larger societal world and approach therapy, consultation and coaching from anti-oppressive, liberatory and trauma-informed perspectives.
