I help individuals and couples make meaning from their experience and understand what they need. I'm going for a warm, curious relationship that allows people to feel comfortable exploring things that can be complex and painful. My patients teach me as much about good therapy and ways of relating as I give to them.
To encourage people to find the right therapist for them, I charge for a consultation only if we decide to continue working together. I'm not on insurance panels. I lower my fee for people in need when possible. I meet with people in person and on video.
I'm allergic to the idea of pledging allegiance a therapeutic orientation or team. I study widely across perspectives and adopt what's useful for a particular person or couple. That said, my thinking is highly influenced by my training as an empirically-based social psychologist (Princeton University, 1994), as a relational psychoanalyst (National Institute of the Psychotherapies 2006), and as a student of compassion-based therapy and Buddhism.
