Many women carry the emotional weight of their relationships. You may be the one who notices the connection with your partner fading. Or you may be lying awake, worried about a teenager who is anxious, withdrawn, or struggling. When the same arguments keep repeating, feeling stuck can be exhausting. You don't have to figure it out alone.
Dr. Yaliu He is a licensed marriage and family therapist who offers therapy in English and Mandarin, virtually across the tri-state area and in person in Scarsdale. She works with couples who want to reconnect and with families supporting a teen through depression, anxiety, or stress. In both, her aim is the same: to support individuals by strengthening the relationships that matter most to them, with compassion.
Models like Gottman and Emotionally Focused Therapy offer valuable tools, and Dr. He draws on them when they fit. But her work rests on a broader foundation. She practices Integrative Systemic Therapy, a theory she wrote a book on. Rather than asking who is "the problem," this approach looks at the patterns between people that keep everyone stuck. Each person's well-being stays in view too, including stress, adjustment, and trauma. Her work is relationship-focused, trauma-informed, and culturally attuned.
Dr. He is an Associate Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy at Iona University and a former Associate Editor of Family Process. She has published many peer-reviewed articles and presented at many national and international conferences. Her training includes a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and a postdoctoral fellowship at The Family Institute at Northwestern University. Having lived between cultures herself, she understands how cultural differences can strain even close relationships.
